The Venice Biennale – the oldest and most important contemporary art event – is where the art world meets. Artists, galleries, dealers, collectors and art lovers transform Venice into a mass art performance. The main exhibition, in the Arsenale, is curated by the nominated artistic director for the show. The Giardini – the wooded public park jutting out into the canal – becomes home to a third of the national pavilions. The other national exhibitors spread out across Venice’s historical palazzi. And then there’s all the independent exhibitions and events, inside the city and on the water. A visit to Biennale is a complete immersion in the contemporary art scene.
