Porto’s historic centre is a UNESCO world heritage site and makes for a couple of wonderful days on foot. The architecture is breath-taking and there are many treasures missed by most visitors. It also has some superb restaurants where you can sample the much underrated and excellent Portuguese wines. There is a lot going on in the arts and entertainment world in the city, from contemporary art exhibitions to musical performances.
Porto is also a great jumping off point for the Douro Valley where there are some superb hotels and spas. This is a hidden corner with much to experience, from the small villages and wine producers to dinner on a sailboat.
