Malta is often overlooked, yet this island nation has the greatest density of historic sites in Europe and is a delight to visit all year round.  Its position in the middle of the Mediterranean and wealth of natural harbours have meant that anyone wishing to control the Mediterranean has wanted to rule it. As a result, Malta offers a cross section of history from megalithic temples, Roman mosaics and medieval walled towns to masterpieces by Caravaggio, baroque palaces and the great war rooms for WWII. It offers a fabulous week of cultural adventures.
