Introduction

Day 1 Athens – Arrival

You are met at the airport by your guide and driver. Settle into a 5 star luxury hotel in the heart of Athens with wonderful views of the Acropolis. Visit the Acropolis and fabulous New Acropolis Museum in the late afternoon. Dinner will be in a vibrant quarter of the city.

Day 2 Athens

Visit the ancient Agora and learn about the birth of democracy, followed by a visit to the National Archaeological Museum, one of the greatest archaeological museums in the world. After lunch, enjoy a behind the scenes tour of the Benaki Museum, which displays treasures from each period of Greece’s history.

Day 3 Athens

Spend the morning exploring further sights and museums in Athens with lunch in a fashionable district of the city. Enjoy an afternoon at leisure before visiting the Temple of Poseidon at Sounion one of the ancient world’s most romantically situated temples. Dinner is by the sea.

Day 4 Epidavros & Mycenae

This morning you drive through one of Europe’s most beautiful landscapes, past the Corinth Canal to Epidavros, which boasts the best preserved Greek theatre in the world. After a picnic lunch, explore the extraordinary ruins of Mycenae, the site of Homer’s heroes, c.1200 BC. Drive on to Olympia and overnight.

Day 5 Olympia

Explore the archaeological site of Olympia and learn about the genesis of the Olympic Games. Follow this with a visit to the museum, which displays superb 4th and 5th century BC sculpture. Lunch at a traditional taverna before beginning the scenic drive to Delphi. Overnight in Delphi.

Day 6 Delphi & Athens

At sunrise, visit the ruins of Delphi, once the centre of the Greek world. Tour the museum before lunch where many delights await including ‘The Charioteer’. Drive to Athens, via Marathon, and have dinner overlooking the Acropolis.
